No Time to be Timid

How to Make the World Brighter

Episode Summary

My producer Adam and I recorded the first interview for Season Three! And even though we were both feeling a little puny before the show, when we started making art -- making something out of nothing -- it put a skip into our step like few things can. And a quote from Neil Gaiman helps explain why.

Tricia

Hey there, I'm Tricia Rose Burt. And welcome to No Time to Be Timid and our eighth mini episode. I recorded my first podcast interview for season three today, which is going to launch at the end of March. Very exciting. My producer, Adam, and I use a platform called Riverside to record the interviews. It's like an online studio, which gives you both audio and video. Adam and I always meet about ten minutes before the interview starts, just to make sure all the tech on our end is working. And when I logged on today, I went, ew, I look a lot older than the last time I was here. And Adam said, what are you talking about? You were just here four months ago. You don't look any older. And I said, yes, I do. And he says, no, you don't. So we have this back and forth about whether I'm visibly aging. And then I say, I think I look older because Riverside doesn't have the "enhance my appearance" feature that Zoom has. And by the way, I just found out about that feature six months ago. Apparently, I went through the entire pandemic on Zoom without enhancing my appearance.

At any rate, Adam fesses up that he probably has the flu and God bless him he still shows up because he believes the podcast must go on. But even though I feel a little like the picture of Dorian Gray and Adam's battling whatever crud is gunning for him, we both realize we have this incredible energy because we're about to record our first interview for season three. We're about to make something from nothing. We're making art. Being creative is putting a spring in our collective step.

So time is going to march on and we are going to get older and we will get sick, and then, God willing, we will get healthy again. And through it all, creativity will be the thread that holds our days together and the thing that gives us energy and hope. As Neil Gaiman says, "The world always seems brighter when you've just made something that wasn't there before." So go out there and make something, stay tuned for season three, and remember, this is no time to be timid.
